Dr. Anthony Kassir, M.D.

Psychiatric Physician

Practicing with an emphasis on comprehensive integrated treatment, Dr. Kassir specializes in the application of various forms of psychotherapy, and enjoys facility in the use of psychotropic medication, when necessary. In other words, he is both a psychiatrist and a therapist.

Pursuant to his many years of specialized training in psychotherapy, well beyond that afforded most psychiatrists, Dr. Kassir is recognized internationally as a leading ISTDP psychotherapist. ("ISTDP" is "Intensive Short-Term Dynamic Psychotherapy.")

In addition, Dr. Kassir is a Doctor of Medicine (M.D.), board-certified psychiatrist, Diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, Life Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association, and faculty of the California Institute for Short-Term Dynamic Psychotherapy. He also serves as the IT Committee Chair for the Orange County Psychiatric Society. He is licensed by the Medical Board of California, possessing a Physician's and Surgeon's Certificate from that Board. Finally, he holds an appointment as Assistant Clinical Professor at the University of California Irvine, Dept. of Psychiatry and Human Behavior (Volunteer Faculty).

To be more specific about his specialized training in psychotherapy, Dr. Kassir has 9 years of training in Davanloo's Intensive Short-Term Dynamic Psychotherapy including 5 years in the Montreal Core Supervision Group under the direct supervision and tutelage of Habib Davanloo, M.D., the creator of ISTDP. In 2007, Dr. Kassir was selected by Dr. Davanloo as one of 2 doctors worldwide who received the rare privilege of 18 hours of live closed-circuit supervision by Dr. Davanloo, with an additional 48 hours of videotaped supervision, in the Montreal Training Program on Mobilization of the Unconscious and Block Therapy, a modern extension of ISTDP. The program culminated in Dr. Kassir's presentation of his work by invitation of Dr. Davanloo at the Audiovisual Immersion Course in Montreal, Canada, in October, 2007, to an international audience. With other faculty members of the California Institute for Short-Term Dynamic Psychotherapy, he has provided Continuing Medical Education instruction in the technique of ISTDP to physician audiences.
